30 June Mon – Go Light your World

Voice: Emily

Go Light your World

Today is Monday, 30th of June. Take a moment to be still in His presence.

We pray this collect by Anselm of Canterbury:

Teach me to seek you, and as I seek you, show yourself to me;
for I cannot seek you unless you show me how,
and I will never find you unless you show yourself to me.
Let me seek you by desiring you,
and desire you by seeking you;
let me find you by loving you,
and love you in finding you. Amen.

We praise the Lord together in the words of Psalm 113:

Praise the Lord!
Praise, O servants of the Lord,
praise the name of the Lord!

Blessed be the name of the Lord
from this time forth and forevermore!
From the rising of the sun to its setting,
the name of the Lord is to be praised!

The Lord is high above all nations,
and his glory above the heavens!
Who is like the Lord our God,
    who is seated on high,
who looks far down
on the heavens and the earth?
He raises the poor from the dust
and lifts the needy from the ash heap,
to make them sit with princes,
with the princes of his people.
He gives the barren woman a home,
making her the joyous mother of children.
Praise the Lord!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as It was in the beginning, is
now, and shall be forever. Amen.

We meditate on Isaiah 49:5-6

5 And now the Lord says,
he who formed me from the womb to be his servant,
    to bring Jacob back to him;
and that Israel might be gathered to him—
for I am honored in the eyes of the Lord,
and my God has become my strength—
6 he says:
“It is too light a thing that you should be my servant
to raise up the tribes of Jacob
        and to bring back the preserved of Israel;
I will make you as a light for the nations,
that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.”

This is the Word of the Lord
Thanks be to God

Reflection

The plans of God for the world are often born quietly in the wombs of mothers. Every person has the capacity to be used by God for a unique and sacred purpose.

This ability is not something we earn; it is a divine gift.

Yet many of us struggle to believe this about ourselves. We think it is “too small a thing” to imagine that we could be chosen as God’s servant for His purposes. We downplay our lives, our potential, our influence. We cannot imagine that we matter much in the grand plans of God.

But today’s Scripture reminds us: “We are honored in His eyes.” God is our strength, and through Him, we can fulfil the very purpose for which we were created.

You may feel like your life is too ordinary to make a difference. You may find it hard to believe that you could be a light for others—a vessel of God’s love, a bearer of His salvation.

But you can.

Pause for a moment. Be still.

Will you ask God to fulfil His purpose in your life?

Is there a “little corner” where He has placed you—a classroom, an office cubicle, a family, a café—where His love can shine through you?

It doesn’t matter how large or small your world seems. What matters is that you fill it with the light of Christ.

  • Ask God to show you His purpose for you today.
  • Pray for courage to be His light wherever you are.
  • Ask for one opportunity to share His love with someone near you.

You are honored in His eyes. He has placed His light in you. Let it shine.

In our lectionary today, we also commemorate the ministries of Peter and Paul. We pray this special collect:

Almighty God,
whose blessed apostles Peter and Paul
glorified you in their death as in their life:
grant that your Church,
inspired by their teaching and example,
and made one by your Spirit,
may ever stand firm upon the one foundation,
Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Be blessed by this song, Go light your world.

There is a candle in every soul
Some brightly burning, some dark and cold
There is a Spirit who brings a fire
Ignites a candle and makes His home

So Carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the hopeless, confused and torn
Hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle, and go light your world
Take your candle, and go light your world

Frustrated brother, see how he’s tried to
Light his own candle some other way
See now your sister, she’s been robbed and lied to
Still holds a candle without a flame

So Carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the lonely, the tired and worn
Hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle, and go light your world
Take your candle, and go light your world

We are a family whose hearts are blazing
So let’s raise our candles and light up the sky
Praying to our Father, in the name of Jesus
Make us a beacon in darkest times

So Carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the helpless, deceived and poor
Hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle, and go light your world

Carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the hopeless, confused and torn
Hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle, and go light your world
Take your candle, and go light your world
