7 August Thur – The Trinitarian Blessing

Voice: Emily

Today is Thursday, 7th of August. As we start another day, let us observe a moment of silence.

We pray:

O Almighty God, who pourest out on all who desire it the spirit of grace and of supplication: Deliver us, when we draw near to thee, from coldness of heart and wanderings of mind, that with steadfast thoughts and kindled affections we may worship thee in spirit and in truth; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

We read Psalm 15

O Lord, who shall sojourn in your tent?
    Who shall dwell on your holy hill?

He who walks blamelessly and does what is right
    and speaks truth in his heart;
who does not slander with his tongue
    and does no evil to his neighbor,
    nor takes up a reproach against his friend;
in whose eyes a vile person is despised,
    but who honors those who fear the Lord;
who swears to his own hurt and does not change;
who does not put out his money at interest
    and does not take a bribe against the innocent.
He who does these things shall never be moved.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as It was in the beginning, is
now, and shall be forever. Amen.

The Scripture Reading is 2 Corinthians 13: 11-14

11 Finally, brothers, rejoice. Aim for restoration, comfort one another, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you. 12 Greet one another with a holy kiss. 13 All the saints greet you.

14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

This is the Word of the Lord
Thanks be to God

Reflection

The Trinitarian Blessing

As we come to the close of our New Testament readings in Morning Prayer with the final chapter of 2 Corinthians, we encounter a verse that is both familiar and profound:

“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”

This Trinitarian blessing is one we hear often in Anglican worship. It concludes our services and punctuates our prayers. Within these few words lies the very heart of why and how we gather as the people of God.

The Grace of the Lord Jesus Christ:

We gather only by grace. We are all sinners, saved not by merit but by mercy. This grace equalizes us. None of us is more deserving, more spiritual, or more important than another. This ought to shape the way we approach worship and one another—not with judgment, comparison, or pride, but with humility and gratitude. We come, broken and forgiven, welcomed by the grace of Christ.

The Love of God:

It is the love of the Father that draws us into His presence. We often speak of grace as receiving what we do not deserve. But have we truly grasped that God blesses us simply because He loves us?
Not as a reward, not as a transaction—but as a Father who delights in His children. As Romans 5:8 reminds us,

“God demonstrates His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Before we ever tried to be good, He loved us. That is the love we rest in every time we gather.

The Fellowship of the Holy Spirit:

It is the Holy Spirit who binds us together. Without Him, we are merely a social gathering. With Him, we are the Body of Christ. On the Day of Pentecost, the Spirit created the Church—not just a collection of individuals, but a koinonia, a sacred fellowship.

This unity is fragile and must be guarded. That is why Paul urges in Ephesians 4:3:

“Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”

The Spirit enables us to live, forgive, serve, and love as a true spiritual family.

So the next time you say this blessing—whether at the end of a service or in prayer—pause and reflect.

Let it not be a mere formula, but a reaffirmation of our identity and calling:

  • To walk in the grace of Christ,
  • To rest in the love of the Father,
  • To live in the fellowship of the Spirit.

And may this be with us all.

In closing, be blessed by this worshipful song, The More I seek You

The more I seek You
The more I find You
The more I find You
The more I love You

I wanna sit at Your feet
Drink from the cup in Your hand
Lay back against You and breath
Feel Your heartbeat
This love is so deep It’s more than I can stand
I melt in Your peace, it’s overwhelming
