1 Sept Mon – Wisdom

Voice: Emily

Today is Monday, 1st of September. As we start another month, let us be still before the One who is in control of our days.

We pray:

Almighty and everlasting Father,
we thank you that you have brought us safely to the beginning of this day.
Keep us from falling into sin or running into danger;
order us in all our doings;
and guide us to do always what is right in your eyes:
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Psalm 82

God has taken his place in the divine council;
    in the midst of the gods he holds judgment:
“How long will you judge unjustly
    and show partiality to the wicked? Selah
Give justice to the weak and the fatherless;
    maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute.
Rescue the weak and the needy;
    deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”

They have neither knowledge nor understanding,
    they walk about in darkness;
    all the foundations of the earth are shaken.

I said, “You are gods,
    sons of the Most High, all of you;
nevertheless, like men you shall die,
    and fall like any prince.”

Arise, O God, judge the earth;
    for you shall inherit all the nations!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as It was in the beginning, is
now, and shall be forever. Amen.

Proverbs 8

1 Does not wisdom call?
        Does not understanding raise her voice?
2 On the heights beside the way,
        at the crossroads she takes her stand;
3 beside the gates in front of the town,
        at the entrance of the portals she cries aloud:
4 “To you, O men, I call,
        and my cry is to the children of man.
5 O simple ones, learn prudence;
        O fools, learn sense.
6 Hear, for I will speak noble things,
        and from my lips will come what is right,
7 for my mouth will utter truth;
        wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
8 All the words of my mouth are righteous;
        there is nothing twisted or crooked in them.
9 They are all straight to him who understands,
        and right to those who find knowledge.
10 Take my instruction instead of silver,
        and knowledge rather than choice gold,
11 for wisdom is better than jewels,
        and all that you may desire cannot compare with her.

This is the Word of the Lord
Thanks be to God

Wisdom

Wisdom in the Bible is not about being clever, well-read, or even seasoned by life experience. You may have heard the Asian proverb: “He has eaten more salt than you of rice.” This points to age and experience, but that is not how Scripture defines wisdom.

Biblical wisdom begins with a right relationship with God. Proverbs opens with this truth: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (1:7). Reverence and humility before God place us on the path of wisdom.

In chapter 8, wisdom is personified and speaks. She raises her voice not in hidden corners but in public spaces — at crossroads, city gates, and portals. Her presence is everywhere.

At the crossroads, we must choose our direction. There wisdom calls, urging us to make the right turnings. In the ancient world, the city gates were more than entry points; they were the hub of life — where elders gathered, disputes were judged, and business was transacted. Even there, wisdom speaks.

The Hebrew word translated “portals” points to places of entry, places of movement and decision. Wherever people pass, wisdom’s voice can be heard.

When we are tempted to live foolishly, wisdom urges prudence and sensible choices. When we are tempted to deceive or manipulate, wisdom calls us to integrity. She leads us away from crooked paths and onto straight ones. To those who seek her with a right heart, wisdom is plain and clear.

These proverbs leave us with food for thought: Do our hearts remain pure enough to hear wisdom’s voice today? For wisdom is speaking — in our workplaces, homes, and interactions — if only we will listen.

And when you find her, take hold of her. Wisdom is priceless, more precious than silver, gold or crypto, better than anything you might be striving to acquire today.

We pray this Collect :

Almighty God, the fountain of all wisdom,
you know our necessities before we ask and our ignorance in asking:
Have compassion on our weakness, and mercifully give us those things which for our unworthiness we dare not,
and for our blindness we cannot ask;
through the worthiness of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen

Be blessed by this song, The Perfect Wisdom Of Our God

1. The perfect wisdom of our God, revealed in all the universe:
All things created by His hand, and held together at His command.
He knows the mysteries of the seas, the secrets of the stars are His;
He guides the planets on their way, and turns the earth thru another day.

2. The matchless wisdom of His ways that mark the path of righteousness; His word a lamp unto my feet, His Spirit teaching and guiding me.
And oh, the mystery of the cross, that God should suffer for the lost,
So that the fool might shame the wise and all the glory might go to Christ.

3. O grant me wisdom from above, to pray for peace and cling to love,
And teach me humbly to receive the sun and rain of Your sov’reignty.
Each strand of sorrow has a place within this tapestry of grace;
So through the trials I choose to say, “Your perfect will in Your perfect way.”
