Voice: Ting Ai
Today is Wednesday, 3rd of December. As we begin another day, pay attention to His presence and blessings in the little moments in your life.
In this Season of Advent, we pray:
Almighty God,
as your kingdom dawns,
turn us from the darkness of sin to the
light of holiness,
that we may be ready to meet you
in our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Psalm 5
Give ear to my words, O Lord;
consider my groaning.
2 Give attention to the sound of my cry,
my King and my God,
for to you do I pray.
3 O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice;
in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.
4 For you are not a God who delights in wickedness;
evil may not dwell with you.
5 The boastful shall not stand before your eyes;
you hate all evildoers.
6 You destroy those who speak lies;
the Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.
7 But I, through the abundance of your steadfast love,
will enter your house.
I will bow down toward your holy temple
in the fear of you.
8 Lead me, O Lord, in your righteousness
because of my enemies;
make your way straight before me.
9 For there is no truth in their mouth;
their inmost self is destruction;
their throat is an open grave;
they flatter with their tongue.
10 Make them bear their guilt, O God;
let them fall by their own counsels;
because of the abundance of their transgressions cast them out,
for they have rebelled against you.
11 But let all who take refuge in you rejoice;
let them ever sing for joy,
and spread your protection over them,
that those who love your name may exult in you.
12 For you bless the righteous, O Lord;
you cover him with favor as with a shield.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as It was in the beginning, is
now, and shall be forever. Amen.
Matthew 12:43-45
43 “When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, but finds none.
44 Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when it comes, it finds the house empty, swept, and put in order.
45 Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there, and the last state of that person is worse than the first. So also will it be with this evil generation.”
This is the Word of the Lord
Thanks be to God
Filling the Empty Spaces
In this illustration, Jesus teaches on the need to fill our lives in the right way that evil may not abound.
The house, representing our lives is swept clean, emptied and put to order. After all it is the Season of Advent and another year is drawing to a close. You have looked back and realised that you have been living recklessly. You have not been able to sense the presence of the Lord for a long time now.
You made a decision to stop engaging in an addictive behavior or consume an addictive substance. You may have stopped a relationship that you know is wrong. You “spring clean” your life. You are glad that everything is now in order. You sense you are in a better state to welcome 2026.
But empty spaces now abound. There is 24 hours per day to live through. Unless you fill your life with the right things, you can easily fall back with greater intensity to your old habits. “Seven other spirits more evil than itself” could return to fill these spaces again.
Pray about how you may fill your life with the right things. Are there new and healthy hobbies that you should take up? How about living your life with a sense of mission? Is there someone you should reach out to? Or someone whom you can be more intentional in discipling or sharing your life with?
You know you need to read God’s Word and good Christian books on a more regular basis.
How will 2026 unfold? Take some moments and maybe even a few days to retreat, pray and reflect.
How may you fill your “house” and remove the empty spaces that you may grow spiritually and walk into His will for your life in 2026?
Join in this Prayer of St.Thomas A Kempis, (1380-1470)
Lord, You know what is best; let this be done or that be done as You please. Give what You will, as much as You will, when You will. Do with me as You know best, as will most please You, and will be for Your greater honor. Place me where You will and deal with me freely in all things. I am in Your hand; turn me about whichever way You will. Behold, I am Your servant, ready to obey in all things. Not for myself do I desire to live, but for You – would that I could do this worthily and perfectly! Amen.

Dark midnight was my cry,
Dark midnight was my cry,
Give me Jesus.

Oh, when I come to die,
Oh, when I come to die,
Oh, when I come to die,
Give me Jesus.

About This Daily Devotion
This weekday devotion is drawn from the Morning Office and is part of a project initiated by Revd Canon Terry Wong, with contributions from clergy and members across various parishes. Each entry includes selected readings from the appointed Psalm and another Scripture passage, accompanied by a reflection and prayer. An audio option is also available, often ending with a hymn or song. We encourage you to both read and listen.
Our aim is to help Anglicans engage more deeply with our rich liturgical tradition, while meeting the devotional needs of today’s believers. This project began on Ash Wednesday 2025 and is offered on weekdays only.
