27 April Mon – Turn your hearts

Voice: Vincent

Today is Monday, 27th of April. Take a moment to be still before the Lord.

We pray:

Almighty and everlasting Father,
we thank you that you have brought us safely to the beginning of this day.
Keep us from falling into sin or running into danger;
order us in all our doings;
and guide us to do always what is right in your eyes:
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Psalm 103

Bless the Lord, O my soul,
    and all that is within me,
    bless his holy name!
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
    and forget not all his benefits,
who forgives all your iniquity,
    who heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit,
    who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
who satisfies you with good
    so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

The Lord works righteousness
    and justice for all who are oppressed.
He made known his ways to Moses,
    his acts to the people of Israel.
The Lord is merciful and gracious,
    slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
He will not always chide,
    nor will he keep his anger forever.
10 He does not deal with us according to our sins,
    nor repay us according to our iniquities.
11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
    so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;
12 as far as the east is from the west,
    so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
13 As a father shows compassion to his children,
    so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.
14 For he knows our frame;
    he remembers that we are dust.

15 As for man, his days are like grass;
    he flourishes like a flower of the field;
16 for the wind passes over it, and it is gone,
    and its place knows it no more.
17 But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him,
    and his righteousness to children’s children,
18 to those who keep his covenant
    and remember to do his commandments.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as It was in the beginning, is
now, and shall be forever. Amen.

Turn your hearts

We reflect today on Psalm 103, with particular attention to verses 14 to 18.

“The Lord remembers our frame.”
He knows what we are made of.

We are dust.

On Ash Wednesday, these solemn words are spoken over us: “You are dust, and to dust you shall return.” It is a necessary reminder. We may achieve much through our bodies—through beauty, strength, and talent—but one day, all will return to the earth. We are, at our core, mortal.

The psalmist goes further: we flourish like the flowers of the field—briefly. When the wind passes over, they are gone, and their place remembers them no more. 🌾

Some of us have seen tulips in full bloom—striking, vibrant, almost breathtaking. Yet their beauty lasts only a week or two. So it is with human life: real, meaningful, yet fleeting.

In contrast stands the steadfast love of the Lord. It endures forever.

This psalm speaks of many blessings—but it repeats a condition: they belong to those who fear the Lord. This is not a cringing fear, but a reverent turning of the heart toward Him.

So turn your heart to Him today.

As you go through the day, you will encounter many things that feel important—urgent even—but are, in truth, like grass and flowers: temporary. 🌿

Set your heart instead on what endures.

Invest in what is eternal.
Treasure your walk with the Lord.
Turn your heart to Him.

We pray the Collect for today:

Almighty God,
whose Son Jesus Christ is the resurrection and the life:
raise us, who trust in him, from the death of sin to the life of righteousness,
that we may seek those things which are above,
where he reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen

In closing, be blessed by this song inspired by Psalm 23, Surely Goodness, Surely Grace by Jayce and the Crossroads.

When shadows fall in the valley steep
I hear your voice Where the echoes sleep
Your rod, your staff
They carry me through
In the darkest night
I’m safe with you

[Pre-chorus]
Oh my soul
Don’t you fear
His love is strong He is near

[Chorus]
Still waters run deep, your peace overflows
My cup is alive, my spirit knows
Surely goodness, surely grace
Will follow me all my days

He spread a table in the face of foes
Anoint my head
Till the blessings show
Green pastures call I rest in your name
Through every storm
You stay the same

[Pre-chorus]
Oh my heart Let it sing
He’s my shepherd He’s my king
