Voice: Doreen
Today is Thursday, 30th of April. Take a moment to be still in His presence.
We start by praying the words of Psalm 57:
Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me,
for in you my soul takes refuge;
in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge,
till the storms of destruction pass by.
2 I cry out to God Most High,
to God who fulfills his purpose for me.
3 He will send from heaven and save me;
he will put to shame him who tramples on me. Selah
God will send out his steadfast love and his faithfulness!
4 My soul is in the midst of lions;
I lie down amid fiery beasts—
the children of man, whose teeth are spears and arrows,
whose tongues are sharp swords.
5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens!
Let your glory be over all the earth!
6 They set a net for my steps;
my soul was bowed down.
They dug a pit in my way,
but they have fallen into it themselves. Selah
7 My heart is steadfast, O God,
my heart is steadfast!
I will sing and make melody!
8 Awake, my glory!
Awake, O harp and lyre!
I will awake the dawn!
9 I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples;
I will sing praises to you among the nations.
10 For your steadfast love is great to the heavens,
your faithfulness to the clouds.
11 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens!
Let your glory be over all the earth!
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as It was in the beginning, is
now, and shall be forever. Amen.
Exodus 34:27-35
27 And the Lord said to Moses, “Write these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.” 28 So he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights. He neither ate bread nor drank water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.
29 When Moses came down from Mount Sinai, with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand as he came down from the mountain, Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with God.30 Aaron and all the people of Israel saw Moses, and behold, the skin of his face shone, and they were afraid to come near him. 31 But Moses called to them, and Aaron and all the leaders of the congregation returned to him, and Moses talked with them.32 Afterward all the people of Israel came near, and he commanded them all that the Lord had spoken with him on Mount Sinai. 33 And when Moses had finished speaking with them, he put a veil over his face.
34 Whenever Moses went in before the Lord to speak with him, he would remove the veil, until he came out. And when he came out and told the people of Israel what he was commanded, 35 the people of Israel would see the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses’ face was shining. And Moses would put the veil over his face again, until he went in to speak with him.
This is the Word of the Lord
Thanks be to God
With Glowing Faces
After spending time in the presence of God, Moses’ face shone. There would have been no need for a veil if not for the fear of the people (Exodus 34:29–35).
Pause and consider this for a moment.
Moses’ ministry flowed out of his time with God. How else could he faithfully convey the Word of the Lord to His people? The authority and power of his leadership did not come from ability alone, but from encounter—from being with God.
Are you involved in ministry? You may be leading a cell group, serving in a ministry, or even pastoring a congregation. At times, do you feel lost? Do you sense that you have nothing to “feed” the people entrusted to you? You may be sincere, even diligent—but still find yourself asking: How can I be spiritually effective?
There is no shortcut.
If you desire to be an effective shepherd, you must spend time in His presence. You must speak with the Lord—and learn to hear from Him.
Your face must “glow.”
Or is it that your “face” reflects little of Him? When you speak, are your words drawn from yourself—or from the Lord?
If all you have is yourself, you will eventually be depleted. Burnout is not far away. And if you strive merely to say the right things, those words may end up being yours alone—and they will not truly feed.
Did not Jesus Christ say, “Abide in me… apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:4–5)? We see this in the contrast between Mary and Martha (Luke 10:38–42), and in how Jesus Himself regularly withdrew to pray, even in the midst of pressing ministry demands.
The pattern is clear.
Ministry that endures is ministry that flows from presence.
Dear brothers and sisters, will you prioritise time with Him?
Only then will your life—and your ministry—shine with a borrowed and reflective glory that is not your own.
Prayer: Today according to our cycle of prayer, pray for the vital and fast growing work of our Anglican Community Services.
We pray the Prayer of St. Ambrose of Milan, 339-397
O Lord, who hast mercy upon all,
take away from me my sins,
and mercifully kindle in me the fire of thy Holy Spirit.
Take away from me the heart of stone,
and give me a heart of flesh,
a heart to love and adore thee,
a heart to delight in thee,
to follow and to enjoy thee,
for Christ’s sake. Amen.
In closing, be blessed by this heartfelt song, The More I Seek You by Jessie Harris.
The more I seek You The more I find You
The more I find You The more I love You
I wanna sit at Your feet
Drink from the cup in
Your hand Lay back against You and breath
Feel Your heartbeat
This love is so deep
It’s more than I can stand
I melt in Your peace, it’s overwhelming
